Study of a data center
In the very large-scale data center environment, cooling system standards capable of meeting the evolving IT industries are required due to the increasing density of IT equipment (more than 10 kW/rack). Cooling to remove heat from high density IT equipment is a key point for these data centers.
To do this, it is necessary to simulate, by numerical calculation, the thermo-aerodynamic behavior of the various phenomena that take place in the hall in relation to the computer processes and the climate control systems.
The results of the first studies were not compatible with the Ashrae standards governing the site and a hot spot risk could be identified.
In fact, certain floor grids near the walls could end up with an overflow leading to an undersizing of certain decisive grids near a high-power server. The results of the first studies were not compatible with the Ashrae standards governing the site and a hot spot risk could be identified.
After having optimized the positioning of the grids; then checking that there is no hot spot; several scenarios were studied: standard use scenario and failure or maintenance type scenario.
Finally, the evolution of room temperatures over time was studied in the event of an outage of the concessionary network and restart of the various back-up systems.
