EOLIOS Engineering has verified and optimized the design of a system to improve the air mixing of air coolers located on the roof of technical premises occupied by generators.
The purpose of the mission was to study the cooling system of a data center composed of a complex of 4 generators.
The challenge of such a project is to control the particular thermo-aerodynamic phenomena induced by the different manufacturing steps at very high temperatures. It will be a question of studying by CFD thermo-aeraulic study the various aeraulic and thermal principles governing according to the configuration of the systems.
This analysis examines the exhaust plume from a series of generators in relation to rooftop systems for a data center. The goal is to determine if exhaust from the systems can contaminate the supply air of the various equipment and their impact on adjacent buildings.
It is a question of simulating by the numerical calculation CFD the thermo-aeraulic behavior of the various phenomena which take place outside the model and inside the technical rooms generating sets.
The radiant temperatures of the walls, the thermal draft resulting from the processes of the driving gases, the wind pressure, the internal resistance to the vertical air flow; the location and flow resistance characteristics of the envelope openings; the local terrain and the immediate impact of the building structure on the wind; as well as the presence of mechanical systems stirring air around the processes were integrated into the simulation.
The results of the first studies indicated the presence of a loop and a non-optimal heat extraction for the roof systems. The presence of an opaque pinion favoring the recirculation of the air extracted from the air coolers towards the suction zones. This looping phenomenon leads to an increase in the system discharge temperature, which in turn leads to an increase in the return temperature.
Optimization solutions not presented here could be provided.
